Highlights

The full-throttle High Country tour - this is four days of adrenalin packed 4WD driving in the fabulous unspoilt high country regions.

The Four Day Tag-along Tour will let you drive your own 4X4 vehicle in convoy style on five private farms as well as Molesworth and Rainbow Stations in the beautiful Marlborough high country.

Food

  • Daily breakfasts are full cooked or continental style on the station and continental served in the dining room at Drifters Inn
  • Two lunches are on farms with the owners and other lunches are country picnic style
  • Dinners are two courses
  • Tea breaks will be served from our onboard supplies of locally roasted plunger coffee or tea and home baking from the cake tins. BYO drinks for evening dining.

Things to know

Vehicle Suitability
A low ratio and high clearance 4WD is necessary. The trip is not suitable for the likes of a Honda CRV.RAV 4 or Subaru Outback. All vehicles must have a current registration and WOF. Please contact us if you are unsure if your vehicle would be suitable or not.

Refuelling
Make sure you fuel up before leaving Blenheim; fuel is available from Upcot Station if required. Hanmer Springs has a petrol station. It is a Caltex Station. They also have puncture repair and tyre changing facilities.

Day 1:100km drive - Meet with your guide and other group members in Blenheim at 8.30am. Drive on coastal farm tracks overlooking the Pacific Coast. A pleasant surprise awaits the ladies before driving up the Awatere valley to a farm to meet the owners for lunch and to explore their property. Late afternoon we reach our destination in the high country and enjoy a BBQ meal together.
Day 2:80km drive - After a farm breakfast we go exploring the station. Driving round spurs, through grassy flats and across rivers stopping for a cuppa in a back country hut. Enjoy lunch back at the homestead before more driving with amazing back country views that few people get to see. After an exciting afternoon enjoy a home cooked meal and sharing stories of the day.
Day 3:140km drive - Heading past the last big stations of the valley we arrive at Molesworth Station, time to explore the original cob cottage before driving in convoy through the station Enjoy being surrounded by nature and the extensive hills. We drive into Hanmer around 4.30pm with time to enjoy the hot pools before dinner.
Day 4:220km drive - Driving into the back country over Jacks Pass, stopping to enjoy the scenery and to look at the alpine plants at Lake Tennyson with an amazing back drop of mountain scenery. Highlights today include Island Saddle, Tarndale Lakes, and a wilderness picnic lunch on Rainbow Station. We reach Blenheim by 5.30pm.
